Is It Really?

Has it really been 35 yrs of marriage to this
good looking, kind man? It has been an adventure
and I am thankful that God showed favor on me
and blessed me abundantly.
So, to celebrate, we went to Savannah.

After our River boat dinner on the Savannah
River, we enjoyed the cool breezy sunset.

City Market..fun place, good music
and good food, adds to good fun!

Sunday lunch...so good!
We have been off all desserts
this summer, but agreed that our anniversary
would be the exception. So, dessert first, then
we needed to order an appetizer, so we would
feel better.

It was a great week-end and
looking forward to many, many more.

Chose my Love!
Love my Choice!

Death by Wallpaper?

Martine Stowers Beauchamp
1875- 1961

Death by Wallpaper? so claims my Great Grandmother.

I ordered a book of my Mom's family, and most stories
were documented by my great grandmother.
I love her looking glass to the past.
She wrote the following about clothing fashion...

"Once a cousin came over 100 miles from her farm to
visit us. As she undressed in front of us,
we ask why she used padding to amplify her breast.
She remarked succinctly,
"Why you dumb dearies,
what God has forgotten, I supply with cotton."

When Martine was 15, she heard that girls were
buying a yard of red wallpaper to make rosy cheeks and lips.
She remarked, "Guess it worked as such girls attracted numbers of male escorts.
To become exceedingly fair like a lily, a finely built handsome girl
to enhance her wonderful sylph like beauty of face and form
was in reality an arsenic addict (arsenic was an ingredient
in the wallpaper). Sadly, many girls were soon to answer the Last Call."

Because of our great Grandmother, the Stowers Family History
of Western Kentucky is alive with her stories.

Choose your Love...

John and Joan Laird
July 3, 1947

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow for a couple
that we really don't know.
The Brides brother-in-law is my nephew,
so maybe we are kinda kin.

So got the gift and card.
The card will not be that different
from the other cards I send to newly weds!

I always have the same bit of advice,
that I came upon at just the time I needed it.
A young friend that has been married 6 yrs,
recently told her mother that she had a friend,
with marriage problems and the only advice that she shared ,
came from the card I gave her.
She thinks it made a difference.
I know it has for me.

It was simply displayed on a sign I read...

You chose your Love...
Now Love your choice!

Was that Me Yelling?

When I was 9 yrs old, my Dad showed me a life lesson,
that came into play yesterday with an instant reaction.

My Dad sent my Mom home from Darby's Little League game
when she decided to tell the umpire that he was wrong.
"Joan" Dad said, " There are children around here and
that won't happen around kids. You go home."
And she did! Not because he "ruled" over her,
but because she needed to show those kids she was wrong.

Yesterday, at Marc's YMCA softball game, that life lesson
came into play...but not quiet the same way.

The opposing team (Green) were on fire, with their young wives and children looking on.
Our team had a hard time getting started. The Green were penalized an out
from an unaware ruling that they questioned, & questioned & questioned.
I'm thinking it is 8 to 1 in the 2nd ending, the umpire is saying
"We obey the rules" ... get over it!
They stalled the 3rd ending grilling the ump about the old call.
enough already!

Later, I see 2 Green players at there bench,
having words and shoving each other. Then one throws
a water bottle at the other, it continues.
"There are children here!"
"There are children here!"
Was that ME yelling... an instant reaction.
Oops! I said it one more time.
( My kids said I always repeated to much.)
One of the guys goes to comfort his son.
The other is staring me down, being held by
a team member. Me, I stare back ,
thinking, you can be as mad at me as you want buddy,
I don't care, but you will not act that way around kids.
And I don't mean maybe! That was totally unacceptable"

Yes, the Mom lecture was alive and going on in my brain,
and I wasn't letting down.

It was at this point that Marcus feared getting hurt.
"How would you get hurt" I ask?
"Do you think I was going to let him hurt you"
That never occurred to me, Marcus suggested that
I should have left it to the umpire...
but I hadn't really planned on yelling out.
I usually cheer quietly, never calling attention to myself.

But, there were children there!

and Marc's team came alive and won 12 -11

P.S. Scroll down and look at our sweet Eli and his birthday cake.

Happy Birthday Eli

Elijah James (Eli) is going to be 5 yrs old.
Today, he celebrated with 3 close friends.
Having a cake like this, in Africa, took serious planning.
I think the freight cars contain, skittles, bubble gum,
raisins & tootsie rolls.
The little 2 yr old, is precious Adam,
named after our Adam Langford!
Happy Birthday, Big Boy,
We love you!

It never bloomed, but is over growing it's home.
I noticed that it needed water, and found this...

Darby...1970(?)

My brother, Darby, wrote me a letter when I was a sophomore
in college. He was a sophomore in H.S. and I'd forgotten how
beautiful his handwriting is. He talked of basketball practice,
school being easy and making the J.V. team. But I love this...

P.S. "I'm glad I got to talk to you tonight.
Sorry I didn't talk longer.
but Mom wasn't in a good mood,
so I wasn't either, because she wasn't.

Remember the Good Word!
Beat those Bulldogs!

They are my treasure!

Found this...

I found this hand made (a great talent) dish
and decided to give it to a friends newborn daughter
(brownies included) I hope precious Elliana
will use this dish to make fun stuff.
I know her parents will show her how to use
the talents she has to glorify God.

Just found my table clothe and smaller items
in a neat bundle in the washing machine.

Notice this new washer has brought back
the old wash tub walls.
